Chapter 102: King
"Xavier!"
The sound of a wolf howling echoed in the clearing, followed by a raging storm of fire that burnt the mole skeletons into piles of ashes.
"Dear, Dear..this is why I asked you to listen to me." Damien stepped forward. "Look, you had to come crawling back to me, didn't you?"
He turned and looked at Glen, who was standing on the side with a smirk on his face. "Why should you listen when elders are talking, you see?"
As he spoke, he snapped his fingers, and a bluish glow erupted all over the clearing where they were standing, and Glen felt like his mana that had been sucked recovered. Though it didn't recover completely, it was much better than before
"From the next time, use your heads a little," remarked Damien as he and Xavier stepped towards the battlefield. "Why would anyone put a reward of 2.3 million gold coins on a simple mole?"
[You have used the newly acquired skill.]
[The King skill has been used.]
[Mana has been shared.]
[With the application of the 'King' skill, the mana has been restored by 25%]
[Level up to share more mana.]
Damien looked at the blue fumes that were rising and falling through his fingertips and clenched his fist.
This was the new skill that he acquired after learning how to control his mana a few days ago. It was quite a surprise that he was able to awaken this skill, as according to Xavier this skill was something that only the heir of the throne could awaken.
Four days ago,
'I can't do this anymore,' Xavier dropped his sword on the ground. He sat down with his legs spread wide and his hands resting on his knees, He looked at Damien with an aggrieved expression before saying to Damien, 'We have been sparring for more than three days, even if I am a warrior—I have my limits, Lord Damien.'
'Oh, come on.' Damien placed his sword and supported his body with it. 'I just need a bit more push. I promise that I will learn how to circulate my mana properly. At least enough to summon Waterblade.'
'And I am telling you that it is impossible,' Xavier deadpanned. 'Even if the Tartarite nails have melted off due to the Impert Snake venom, it's not that easy to circulate one's mana. The children of beastmen learn how to control their mana in the beastcore from a young age.'
'And it's only after sixteen or seventeen years can summon and use the weapons that choose them. As for controlling their beast form, that's also really difficult. Many children stay in their beast form till they are ten or eight years old.'
'If they are not careful, then they end up twisting themselves.'
'Twisting?'
'They end up in a form that is neither that of a beast nor a human. It's really difficult to return to one form after that, as the pain makes one crazy.'
Damien didn't wish to turn into a half-snake and half-human. How foolish would he look if he were to turn into a dragon with legs and the head of a human?
He shuddered and said to Xavier, 'I am not trying to change into my beast form, Xavier. Just a little more… I have a feeling that I am very close to summoning Waterblade.'

'Even if I wanted to, I cannot help you anymore,' Damien heard Xavier say as he got to his feet and dusted off the dirt on his pants. 'My mana has run out after sparring with you for continuous three days without much rest.'
Damien frowned when he heard that Xavier's mana had been emptied. He knew that the beast core was like a container that held mana within it, but he didn't think about the capacity carefully.
Do I have to spar alone? He thought. Damien didn't think it was going to help him much, but at the same time, he didn't wish to stop here and now. Especially when he could feel a force underneath the surface of his beast core.
It felt like a suppressed water flow against the surface of the ground, all it needed was another push, another hit and —
However, when he looked at Xavier who was obviously looking a bit sick, Damien held himself back from pushing him too much.
What was he doing? Did he forget how William pushed him to work harder and harder? How did he feel back then? Didn't he wish William to be a bit understanding?
Now he was doing the same thing as William. Just because of his desire to get stronger, he was pushing Xavier to this degree.
He sighed, feeling a bit annoyed.
'Xavier, I—'
[Congratulations! You have taken a step towards being a true monarch!]
[Being understanding towards the pain and suffering towards your people is the first step towards being a good ruler.]
[Reward unlocked: King.]
[Allows the user to share 25% of his mana with a chosen target.]
'What the…' Damien turned to look at Dan, who was hovering next to his head. 'What is going on? I don't think that this is a skill related to the medical field?'
If he was going to give him a new skill, Dan should have chosen something else!
Dan turned to look at him. However, for some reason, the 3D hologram looked a bit wiser than usual, and Damien heard him say, 'Who said that? You are forgetting that you are a medium between the beast world and the human world. Thus there will be times when you will awaken skills that are not related to the medical field of the human world but the beast world.'
'You are an anomaly, Damien. Thus, your skills will be different from others.'
Damien snapped out of the memory of that day and turned to look at Dan, who was fluttering next to his head. After that day, he had asked Dan about what he meant by those words, however, the AI system told him that he had no recollection of such a thing happening.
As to whether he was lying or something took over him, Damien was yet to find out about it.
