Shangguan Ning quickly bid goodbye to the old lady. Before she left, she heard her mumble, “This grandson of mine hasn’t been with a woman before, somehow I can forgive him for not having a child yet but my other grandson is a brat. He fools around with so many women, even then I had the fortune of seeing a great grandchild. Please God, have mercy, please bless me so that I live long enough to play with my great-grandchild!”

Jing Yiran was in the midst of a discussion with his mother.

“Ran, now that your brother is married, when will it be your turn? You’d better get married soon and have a child quickly. The way things are going, it’s very likely that they will have a child before you do and the child will inherit everything. You won’t have anything left to inherit, by the time you decide to have children.”

“I am the second heir to Family Jing! What do you mean by there will be nothing left? Father has said that he is going to give us a huge amount of properties. What is the point of having a child? I don’t want to get married just to produce an heir.”

Jing Yiran was done with this discussion. He did not know why he was so worked up ever since he saw Jing Yichen and Shangguan Ning walking through the Family Jing gardens, hand in hand.

Seeing her son distracted and turning a deaf ear to her advice, Zhang Rong burst into tears.

“I have been tolerating all this for so many years, only for your sake. If you had worked even a little hard, your father wouldn’t have handed over the entire enterprise over to your brother! That business is worth hundreds of billions of yuan, something your brother won’t be able to handle by himself. You are also Jing Zhongxiu’s son, then why have you got nothing to show for it.”

“Ran, please listen to me! You must go and talk with your father about a chance at managing Jingsheng enterprise, alongside your brother. I would’ve said something myself, and God knows I have, but your father never listens to me. Maybe your words will make a difference. Look at this villa, so enormous and magnificent. This is a symbol of our identity. Do you want to be driven out of this place by him and his wife, later?”

“Your grandma has been looking forward to spoiling her great-grandson. If you have a child first, you will definitely inherit a larger share of the estate. You have so many women that you fool around with. Why can’t you just pick one who comes from a decent family, and have a baby first? You need not do anything more than ensuring that you have a baby. Child birth is a woman’s problem. Once a woman is pregnant with your child, you can go back to your foolhardy ways. No one is going to restrain you.”

Jing Yiran couldn’t help but say, “Mom, is money that important to you? So important that you are alright with me having a child with any random woman? Are you doing this out of your love for me or for money? You married my father for his money, but are you really happy? You can’t even meet your friends or go out at will. What you’re suggesting will only make one more woman miserable. ”

Zhang Rong’s broke down after listening to her son. She was unable to speak.

Jing Yiran understood that he had gone too far, but if he hadn’t said anything now, his mother was very capable of choosing a woman he should get married to and even ensure that they spend a night together.

He didn’t want his life after marriage, to be a facade. He didn’t want to live a life where he and his wife pretended to be a perfect couple in front of the world, but had no personal connection with each other. He didn’t want to repeat his parents’ mistake.

He wanted to marry a woman he loved and to live a happy life, like a normal couple.

Why did Jing Yichen have to be better than him, at everything? Why did Jing Yichen have a wife who loved him so deeply, whilst the women he hung out with only craved for his money and his good looks?

“Mom, you don’t need to worry about my marriage. I know what to do. What you need to do is to take good care of yourself. Our family has so much money and father has never been stingy. You can buy whatever you want, and stop thinking about how to get the estate divided. As for Jing Yichen, you don’t need to worry about him either. He and his wife will not have a long and happy marriage, because they are definitely going to get divorced very soon!”

If he wasn’t able to find someone who was better than Shangguan Ning, then it wouldn’t hurt to get her to be by his side.

If he didn’t find a wife to keep him company for life, then it was only fair that Jing Yichen mustn’t have one either.

Zhang Rong stared at him in surprise. She said in disbelief, “What did you say? They will get divorced??”

They were newly married and Jing Yichen apparently really cared about Shangguan Ning. How would they possibly get divorced?

Although her son never did anything seriously malicious yet, she knew that anything he put his mind to, never failed. She believed that her son really meant what he said. He wasn’t being casual.

Wouldn’t it be great if Jing Yichen and Shangguan Ning were to get divorced?

At that time, even Jing Yichen’s reputation would take a beating. Jingsheng Enterprise would most likely be handed over to her own son. She couldn’t wait for that day to come.

...

Jing Yichen had thought about driving Shangguan Ning back to Landscape Compound, but Shangguan Ning was very keen to see the place where Jing Yichen spent his childhood. She suggested that they could even stay there overnight.

“It’s not some fancy, scenic place. It’s very ordinary, Shangguan.” Jing insisted. Jing Yichen held her hand and even though he wasn’t very keen, he still took her there. They went through the garden and into a villa, that was one amongst many others.

The villa was small but still spacious enough for one person.

No one lived there currently, except for some housekeeping staff who were in charge of its maintenance. When they entered the villa, it looked so empty and isolating.

Shangguan Ning couldn’t help feeling a little sad for Jing Yichen. She held his hand and asked him lovingly, “You lived here... alone?”

Jing Yichen nodded. It wasn’t a big deal. “Yes, I lived alone. Our family lived in separate villas. We didn’t meet, except for meals, at the main house.”

The villa was quiet and isolated. Shangguan Ning finally realized why Jing Yichen didn’t want to live in this villa even though it came with a beautiful view. He chose to move out of this place and live in a high rise apartment instead.

He probably felt lonely. He had no family who shared it this villa with him. The house lacked warmth and love that came from living with your loved ones.

If it had been for her, she wouldn’t like living here either. People are meant to live with people. Living in isolation could be detrimental to a person’s temperament.

Her heart ached for Jing Yichen.

She was aware that the two of them had faced similar hardships in their lives but it was only today that she came to realise just how similar. Both of them lost their mothers at childhood and both of them had a stepmother who was two faced. Both of them had a step sibling that they hated.

There was just one difference. Although Jing Zhongxiu was strict with Jing Yichen, yet she could feel that he loved his son very much. He just wasn’t good at expressing it. Shangguan Zheng, however, had never been a good father to Ning.

With a heavy heart, Shangguan Ning looked up and asked with a smile. “Mr. President, please may I see your room?”

Jing Yichen gave her a tour of the entire villa.

He observed that if there was anything in the villa that was even remotely connected to his childhood or youth, she would gush at it. She wanted to hear about his childhood and his life at the villa. She asked him so many questions.

“This pair of shoes is yours? Oh God! Why did you wear pink shoes? Isn’t pink for girls?”

“You painted this? You are a good painter but why does this bear in the painting, look like a pig?”

“This is you when you were little? You weren’t such a toughie then, I see. You even cried. Hahaha!”

“And you like white rabbit candies? Me too, but my uncle didn’t allow me to eat too many of them because he was worried that my teeth would have cavities.”
