Chapter 4020  Forming A Covenant

Davis didn't know what to say to that statement.

He would rather punch an unwilling party to inflict emotional damage rather than punch a willing party.

However, the Celestial Transcendent continued, his gaze gentle.

"You're enduring well for a young man. Most of them would've lost control by now and flew into a rage only to be killed. How many Divergents died that way when they had a chance to escape? I'm not sure. But we're all humans. You are bound to make a mistake somewhere. I'm hoping you would just make a mistake and have your soul scatter so I wouldn't have to personally deal with you, and the others won't have to suffer from your retaliation."

"If only Divergents weren't born, and you're nothing but a brat with bad luck, but we're not living in such a world, so forgive me. I can't get justice for you."

"I know." Davis calmly replied.

"If I didn't accept your way of doing things, I wouldn't be here. You don't need to feel sorry. You do your job like you've always been doing, and I'll get justice for myself as I always have."

He exhaled, pausing for a moment before he answered, "If you consider me not evil, then the Divergents who were with me in the Obsidian Crystal Turtle Minor Realm are also the same. That's all I can say."

"I thought they came from another galaxy since they haven't shown up on our lists anywhere, but I see now. They're from her world."

The Celestial Transcendent held his chin and nodded. He seemed to have gone deep in thought.

Davis also wanted to ask more about the World Master, but he knew that now was not the time. Probing might only get him in trouble, and he may accidentally slip a few things that might harm the World Master instead. She was still waiting for him to heal her, or he hoped so since word was that the Supreme One had put an end to her.

However, he didn't like to believe it unless he had seen her dead body with his own eyes.

"So, how are we going to form this covenant?" Davis proceeded with the conversation, "Blood Soul Contracts won't work on me, and so would most forms of karmic binding."

He even told his strengths so that the Celestial Transcendent wouldn't think he went against his words and began an incursion against him.

The Celestial Transcendent didn't seem surprised, "Blood Soul Contracts rarely work on Empyreans since they are capable of restoring their soul quintessence and have greater power to destroy bindings. For Empyreans and above, only a True Soul Contract that is capable of targeting the soul quintessence works. It encompasses all life cycles, so even reincarnated souls are bound in it. I assume your unique soul is also similar, but I don't have a True Soul Contract right now, so you would have to do with my karmic technique. It is also more flexible and more encompassing than any True Soul Contract, so one could say you lucked out."

He looked quite proud after explaining, but Davis's lips could only twitch.

"Your… technique…?"

"Don't be so scared." The Celestial Transcendent chuckled, "There's no way I would devise a wicked technique. I used this technique on many great rulers of opposing sides to let them live after they were defeated in my hands."

"Would this technique form a karmic connection between us that allows you to track me?" Davis raised his brows in doubt.

He couldn't have the Celestial Transcendent freely track him down time and time again, could he?

"It sure would." The Celestial Transcendent grinned, "But if I did that, I would likely have to extend your time by a hundred years as promised."

"I see."

Davis lowered his head.

His mind instantly traversed how he could take advantage of these loopholes to get that hundred years, but he shook his head.

"When would you like for the hostages to be released? I can release them right after we sign the contract, or ten years is also fine since I would feel it would be better with leverage. Even if they just carry the weight of an ant's value, letting it stay on your conscience will be a good idea."

"Aiya, you're so wicked. I changed my mind since you're so evil."

The Celestial Transcendent stood up and complained, but his hand moved as he joined his hands. A faint glow emerged, and a bright sword directly manifested above Davis.

"…!"

Davis and Lea stood up as they were alarmed. The pressure it released was not something they could endure in just their soul forms. They appeared as though they could burst any moment with the invisible pressure it cast on them.

However, Davis waved his hand, gesturing at Lea to say it wasn't what she thought it was.

Lea looked above and pursed her lips.

It was the Celestial Transcendent's Karmic Binding Technique…?

The Celestial Transcendent responded, "You can free them right after we finish what we're doing today. What about Elluro? Is he crippled?"

"No, he used too much strength and was thrown out."

"As expected. He didn't totally lose, but you survived his Divine Technique, I see."

"..." Davis didn't bother to correct that misunderstanding.

The Celestial Transcendent chuckled, "Do you trust me enough to take this karmic technique without employing defenses? For all you know, it could kill you or form a covenant between us, but if you guard your soul quintessence, then the covenant wouldn't be formed. This is a restriction I force upon you but one that requires your acceptance from the depths of your Will."

He smilingly warned.

"Go ahead. I will not defend with my main body." Davis smirked in response.

"…" Lea could only look on with a helpless expression. She almost felt like crying, but she trusted Davis's words and held on to her faith.

She trusted he would be unharmed.

The Celestial Transcendent's smile slowly faded. He took in a deep breath and began to speak.

"Rule one, Davis Loret will not kill any Heaven's Warriors who attempt to attack him and his family for the next ten years. He may defend himself but will limit damage to what is minimally necessary and shall not prolong the suffering of those who are caught before they are released."

"Rule two, Davis Loret is allowed to move freely within the realm where his current main hideout is but may not leave the realm for the duration of ten years."

His voice echoed as though he was chanting, heaven and earth resonating along with his words. Even the strange clouds around them all seemed to be moving away.

"Rule three, Davis Loret will not kill anyone below the Empyrean Stage and Autarch Stage for the next ten years, and he cannot command, influence, or hire others to kill on his behalf."

"Rule four, in the Three-Layered Universe, Davis Loret is prohibited from entering the Second Layer for one hundred years and the First Layer for five hundred years."

"In exchange for Davis Loret protecting rule one to rule four, I, the Celestial Transcendent, the incumbent ruler of the Celestial Transcendent Galaxy, will agree to leave Davis Loret and his family alone for the ten-year period, allowing relative peace. If he were to go against his words, his soul would shatter and spread across the void. If I were to go against my words, I will leave him alone for the next hundred years and shall not send anyone against him— and if I were to go against these words again, it will cast a serious injury upon my soul."

"Davis Loret, do you accept this covenant?"

"…" Davis's gaze shook.

The Celestial Transcendent was prepared to harm himself to kill him, the Divine Emperor of Death, if necessary.

So what did he need to hesitate about?"

"I accept your covenant!" He roared.

Abruptly, the sword hanging above Davis's head fell on him, appearing as though it split him from head to toe.

Davis froze in place, and Lea's heart sank.

However, Davis didn't actually split apart in two. The light sword abruptly shrunk and disappeared somewhere, perhaps stabbing into his soul where his main body was. There was no way to tell as the main body was far away, so he looked at the Celestial Transcendent, who had his eyes closed.

A few seconds later, the Celestial Transcendent finally opened his eyes.

"It's done. After you leave, you can release the hostages. As for me, I will leave the Third Layer."

The Celestial Transcendent turned around and flew away without saying anything else.

The Celestial Transcendent didn't include the lives of the captured Heaven's Warriors in the covenant, which meant that the entirety of the power was devoted to shattering his soul or disallowing the Celestial Transcendent from making trouble for him for over a hundred years.

From this, Davis could see that the Celestial Transcendent had a lot of experience in creating covenants, but he knew that this covenant was made to kill him.

Even so, he didn't care since time was the most important factor he needed right now.
