Chapter 215: Checkmate
[Happy New Year Guys]
*****
Howl!
A guttural cry escaped from the massive wolf as a long spear lunged deep into its chest. Blood splashed out like a broken dam. It grimaced in pain and retreated a couple of meters with fear evident on its face.
"How…is…this…" The wolf muttered while struggling to maintain its standing.
The ordinary humans that were weaker than them had turned into powerful experts. All the advantages of a Grade-3 beast were useless against them.
Most especially, their innate advantage and sturdy hide were useless. Previously, their massive body was a huge advantage for them, but now, it made them a live target.
Howl!
The bull cried in agony as one of the soldiers' swords cut through its chest. Its big brown eyes turned fiery red, madness appearing on its face.
Since the guards started attacking them, a powerful pressure descended on their bloodline, rendering them weak. The bull, the weakest of the three, had many deep injuries on its body.
As for the python, it was struggling frantically, trying to break free from the attack. However, no matter what she did, she couldn't escape from the claws of the beast.
Whoosh!
She opened her mouth wide and shot out deadly venom. Watching the deadly venom, the captain commanded quickly.
"Shield!"
Instantly, guards with heavy shields came forward and defended against the poison attack. The continuous sound of burning echoed against their chests, but it could not destroy the shield.
Suddenly, the defense shield opened up, and the captain rushed out, swinging his spear in a race.
Hiss!
His spear cut through the neck of the python, and it let out a shriek. It cried in pain and wiggled its tail back and forth, destroying everything and everyone in its tail's path.
The guards retreated quickly while those with the heavy shield raised their shields up. The python's powerful tail slammed into the shield, sending many guards a couple of feet back.
Still, they rushed back to their feet as they used the shield to protect themselves and attacked the python from all sides.
The python, with a human-like expression, looked at the surroundings, trying to find an escape route but found none. The guards worked in perfect harmony, cutting off their escape routes.
Howl!
The bull made its last cry as its head rolled to the ground and its blood formed a small pool right in front of the city gate.
On the city wall, thousands of soldiers watched the battle below with a fascinating expression. Even though only a hundred guards were fighting the three Grade-3 beasts, those on the wall were not worried. As long as their opponents were not three levels above them, they would be saved.
With the death of the bull, the pressure on the python and the wolf increased. Now, the two beasts were not trying to kill the humans but were looking for ways to escape.
Suddenly, all the fur on the wolf's body turned crimson red as it burned its life essence, and its cultivation skyrocketed almost breaking into a Grade-Four beast. But under the suppression of the pagoda bloodline, it couldn't make it to a Grade-Four beast. Still, the sudden increase in its power allowed it to ignore some attacks and rush out of the siege.
Watching as the wolf was about to escape, a slight fear appeared on the captain's face, and he shouted, "Fire the Spirit Cannon."
On the city wall, the soldiers in charge of the Spirit Cannon didn't waste time and turned the deadly weapon toward the escaping beast.
Bang!
A powerful sound reverberated from the Spirit Cannon as Thunder bullets shot out at speeds impossible for the eyes to see.
Boom!
The land trembled, and a cloud of dust rose to the sky. Instantly, the battle with the python came to a sudden pause as everyone turned their heads in the direction of the attack.
When the dust finally settled down, the massive wolf had turned into a meat paste, with its flesh, bones, and blood splashing everywhere.
Huh!
Everyone sucked in a cold breath, watching the devastating carnage. The python looked at the unrecognizable body of its fellow, and a shiver ran down its spine.
'Where did the humans get such a deadly artifact?!' It cried in its heart.
It turned its big eyes to the top of the city wall and saw hundreds of the deadly artifacts pointing in its direction. 'I'm doomed.'
Looking at the hundreds of Spirit Cannons, the python realized that the beast race didn't stand a chance from the beginning.
Without the humans using such deadly weapons, they were yet to deploy their powerful experts. It was only the guards guarding the city gate that killed two of its kin.
What would happen if all the soldiers decided to attack them? Sucking in a cold breath, it came to a realization: the human race had become more fearsome than they had left their race behind.
"How do you want to die?" A voice broke through its thoughts.
The python turned its massive head and looked at the man that was responding to the death of its two fellow kin. Instantly, it was enraged and threw caution to the wind.
It knew it was not going to escape alive, but it would bring this man along to see king Yama. With that thought, it began to burn its life essence frantically, rushing toward the guard captain.
This time, no one attacked the python.
The python, in its rage, didn't notice the guards' strange behavior. When it was only a couple of feet from the guard captain, its scales had turned purple, and its size had down with its body radiating immense pressure.
"Futile effort." The captain clicked his tongue, and his expression changed.
"Elemental-Blood Suppression." His voice was like a whisper. But to the python, it was something else.
It was a whisper from the depth of the abyss, clinging to the essence of its existence.
Right behind the captain, a nine-level black pagoda materialized. With the appearance of the phantom pagoda, the terrifying python came to an abrupt halt immediately.
A deep fear appeared on its face. Its burning life essence died at once, and the raging blood in its body ceased to function.
The python realized it couldn't control its body any longer. It felt like it was at the mercy of the young man standing with deep pride.
Under the terrifying presence of the phantom pagoda, the python began to revert to its usual size. From burning its life essence, blood gushed out from its mouth like a broken dam.
Slowly, all the intimidating pressure from the Grade-3 beast python disappeared. The python was too stunned to even roll its eyes before its head was separated from its body.
From the beginning to the end, the three beasts didn't even stand a chance. Perhaps, if they were Grade-4 beasts, their plan would have been successful a bit.
In the Celestial Heavenly sect, Su Ming and Elder Jie sat across from each other playing the game of Go. Su Min placed his piece of black go on the board and looked at Elder Jie.
"It's been more than 12 hours since the beast attack started, and we haven't lost a village yet."
Elder Jie nodded and played his piece. "I know, and I'm happy about that."
"With our bloodline, only a handful of enemies could pose a threat to us."
"Right. Right." Elder Jie soothed his long beard and said, "Since the moment we received the blessing of the pagoda, our enemies are not of this world any longer, but those out there."
Su Ming's hand halted in the air, and he looked at Elder Jie with a baffling expression. He didn't quite understand what the elder was saying and expected him to continue.
"Do you know Elder Feng's mission?"
"No." He shook his head, his confusion deepening.
"How big is the barren land?"
"I don't know?"
Su Ming was completely lost with the bizarre question. He dropped the black piece in his hand and said seriously, "Elder, is there anything I'm supposed to know right now?"
"Not for now. Continue with the training of the army. How many troops do we have now?"
"Over two million soldiers." Su Ming, though confused, answered truthfully.
"Hmm, When their population reaches three million, let me know immediately."
"Alright."
"We got all the details from the beast attack. It is time to destroy them." He said with a solemn expression on his face and dropped a piece of a white stone on the board and said,
"Checkmate."
Su Ming looked at the board, and his jaw dropped to the ground. He sighed and asked. "How many should I send?"
"Five hundred thousand. It is time to let those animals know who is the ruler of the barren land."
Unbeknownst to the beast race, the kings among them were deep in the heart of the Dreadshade forest, laughing and eating some delicious meat.
"How many humans do you think they bring when they come back?" A centipede asked in his human form.
"I don't know. But it would be a lot that it would last us for a couple of years."
"True. True. I think we should take all the humans as slaves and rule over them." A monkey added with a big jug in hand.
While they were partying and imagining the fate of the barren landers, a terrifying five hundred thousand soldiers were marching into the forest.
