Chapter 297: Victory Smiles Upon Those Who Persevere
*GHRAAAAARK!!!*
Furious, high-pitched roars shot across the entire clearing, startling the nearby critters and avifauna, prompting them to swiftly free from their homes.
Witnessing what just happened to all of their trusty subordinates, the Goblin Chieftain and Goblin High Shaman roared in utter anger.
Their hard work—gone.
The six "adventurer" goblins were subordinates who had been with them ever since they resided in the periphery of the Vanderwald Advanced Adventurer Zone.
These six were the ones they trusted the most, painstakingly training them until they learned the ways of the adventurers.
Although their talents were limited, their teamwork was impeccable, enabling them to cause trouble for even Shye.
Before Shye and Seira came along, these six victimized a lot of solo adventurers, slowly but steadily learning about their habits, reactions, capabilities, and even the rank of their gear.
Every time a high-ranked adventurer came to destroy the goblin settlement, all of the goblins, including the two bosses, would simply hide until the dangerous adventurer was gone before rebuilding the structures and resuming operations.
Just like that, the goblin village slowly but steadily grew under the leadership of one fierce Goblin Chieftain and one wise Goblin High Shaman.
The bastards were simply too slippery.
The reason why they dared fight Shye and Seira was because the two of them donned nothing but gold and platinum-tier equipment.
Moreover, the two of them were young, making them prime targets for the goblins.
The male would be a meal while the woman would be used for reproduction.
Unfortunately, the two bosses didn't expect Shye and Seira, who respectively wore gold-tier and platinum-tier equipment, to be stronger than they appeared, causing irreversible damage to the village they worked hard to establish and nurture.
Now, only two goblin elites and the two bosses remained from their once 180-strong goblin settlement.
Never had the Goblin Chieftain and the Goblin High Shaman suffered such severe losses.
Even if they successfully kill the two dastardly humans, it wouldn't be enough to soothe the rage in the two leaders' hearts.
Still, that didn't mean that they would simply let the humans escape.
Overcome by rage, the Goblin High Shaman promptly used its ultimate skill.
After a five-second chant, a twenty-meter-long spirit serpent materialized out of thin air, hissing ferociously toward Shye and Seira, its eyes—glaring fiercely at them.
"Seira! I'm leaving those two goblin elites to you! Finish them off quickly and help me deal with the Goblin Chieftain and the Goblin High Shaman!"
"Got it!"
Promptly after a short conversation, Seira complied, courageously dashing towards the two remaining (C) ranked Goblin Elites.
Under typical circumstances, Seira would find it challenging to defeat even a single (C) ranked creature by herself.
However, facing mere goblins, considered one of the weakest and most common races, she could hold her ground against two and even possessed a slight advantage.
Still, winning and winning quickly are two different matters.
The latter was a tall task for her, however, instead of cowering and panicking like she initially would, her eyes now contained a trace of heavy determination and confidence.
For her, it ceased to be a question of "could she do it?" and became a certainty that "she would undoubtedly accomplish it."
This was the effect of staring at death in the eyes and surviving; the confidence of a true veteran adventurer.
Fiercely charging forth, Seira swung her greatsword horizontally, causing the first elite to vomit green blood after blocking her heavy attack head-on.
Naturally, the second goblin wouldn't let the sacrifices of its kin go to waste.
It lunged at Seira with vengeful eyes, stabbing its greatsword towards Seira's neck with unmatched ferocity.
The goblins were so used to capitalizing on the misfortunes of their allies that Seira barely had time to react, fortunately, just before she was stabbed in the neck, she had a sudden epiphany.
She had a skill—one that she deemed useless.
Only now that she found herself in a dire situation did she realize how valuable the random skill she learned was.
It was a mage's skill and the skill uses mana as a catalyst to activate, however, it was an instant cast skill.
It was simply that the effects seemed initially underwhelming to her, to the point where she regretted spending her entire savings of 15,000 silver coins on it.
She didn't expect—not even once, that her life would be saved by her "useless skill".
Just when the sword was about to ruthlessly stab her neck, a thin layer of mana covered her entire body in an instant, and then, the next moment, a shocking thing happened.
As though Seira was nothing but a phantom, the second elite's sword and its entire body passed through her, making the goblin struggle to find its footing as it landed with a dumbfounded expression—its brain finding it hard to fathom what just happened.
As for Seira, promptly after the goblin passed through her, the thin layer of mana coating her entire body disappeared.
She then swiftly charged at the disoriented goblin and neatly slashed its head off, causing green blood to fountain from its headless neck—its body, convulsing as it fell on the ground.
Witnessing the death of yet another kin, the remaining goblin elite was enraged, compelling it to lunge at Seira without thinking.
Naturally, such a predictable straightforward attack was too easy for Seira to deal with.
She simply leaned to the right and slashed her sword diagonally upwards in a backhand motion, empowering it with [Power Slash Lv.4] in an attempt to slay the remaining elite with a single slash.
Green blood spurted out of the goblin's headless neck as a small, green head hurtled through the air, landing just a few meters from the Goblin Chieftain, who was locked in a fierce battle with Shye.
Then, just a short while later…
"HELL YEAH!!"
A deafening roar of victory suddenly reverberated across the clearing, putting a smile on Shye's face.
After desperately surviving for minutes even though the situation was bleak, the Gods and Goddesses of victory finally smiled upon Seira who was relishing in the sweet feeling of vanquishing her foes after a difficult battle.
