Chapter 974 The Cause of the Fall (7)
Chapter 974 The Cause of the Fall (7)
"The Emperor is currently after his ass," Ames replied with a similarly unperturbed attitude. Nonetheless, her expression remained hard as she continued to glare at Nolan.
On the other hand, the latter remained unperturbed by the former's glare.
There was a reason Nolan arranged for Iulia to send members of the Royal Court and representatives of the New Coalition of the noble families to meet with Ames and the others.
Nolan knew Ames's purpose in coming to the Human plane was to have Aron gather the Regis Clan's Elites to save Kyran. While Nolan did not see any problem with that, if the Regis's Elites did leave the plane, the remaining forces guarding the empire's southern borders would not be able to hold against the Archadia's constant harassment. If the southern borders fell, a full-fledged war would follow. But before that happened, the western borders would likely fall as well under the joint siege of the six nations. This would then result in the inevitable downfall of the empire.
Nolan knew Ames could not care less. But the thing was, no matter how much she despised the Royal Family, Winfrey was no longer in charge of it. Besides, if the empire fell, the Regis Family would also suffer.
The Regis Clan's fame was known throughout the Ylfaen Empire and the whole Human plane. However, there were exaggerations to the rumors of their capabilities and overall strength. Thus, leaders of other nations, especially those ambitious ones, would either recruit them to their cause or eradicate them. The latter would definitely be something that the Archadia would love to do, mainly because the Regis Clan, or to be more accurate, the Regis's Ancestor, Zane, was one of the main reasons the Archadia hated the empire.
In any case, if the other nations targeted the Regis Clan, the Regis Estate would become a battlefield again. Sooner or later, the Regis Terram's existence would also be revealed.
Nolan wanted Ames to understand the Ylfaen Empire's situation and hoped she would interfere to ensure the empire would not fall.
What Nolan was trying to do could be considered deliberately taking advantage of Ames to save the empire. This could also be seen as him trying to cause an accidental 'intervention with the plane's internal affairs' from his seemingly harmless invitation.
Nolan would cause a situation akin to Mannick's disclosure to Euan about Haylee's plot— an escalation of the current situation that almost caused an irreversible situation in the empire. Of course, Nolan was not trying to escalate the situation in the empire. He would never incite the ire of Rin and Anette. He was not stupid.
Nolan was confident that his action at that moment would not cause the Fates's intervention and escalate the situation in the empire.
Where did his confidence come from?
Simple.
Nolan was already aware of what Kyran did to one of the Fates when they tried to intervene and stop Flos's and Obstruction's deaths. As a matter of fact, after that incident, Nolan kept an eye on other planes near the Human plane and realized that the Fates had not appeared, or at least, their influence had not been visible after that incident.
From this, Nolan guessed that one of the Fates suffered greatly from Kyran's attack. Thus making their influence over the Lower Realm temporarily weaker.
Nolan could be said to be gambling on the possibility that the Fates's influence would not interfere with his 'meddling.' It might be called gambling, but he was confident of his win.
"'The Emperor'?" Aron was the one who reacted to Ames's statement and looked at her in concern.
Ames looked at Aron with an exasperated sigh, "I don't remember Zane being a reckless fool. Where did a great-grandson of mine become such a troublemaker?"
The moment Ames said this, Aron and the Regis Elders' expressions turned blank.
Zane was not reckless as far as they knew from what little history the Regis Clan managed to preserve. He would do everything he could to protect his family; however, he would do so with a concrete plan. Even when he risked his life to ensure the safety of the Regis Clan against the Red General's attack— later discovered was actually Ruin's doing— he exhausted all the plans he came up with until the only one left was to risk his life so he could give his clan enough time to escape.
Considering this fact, what Ames claimed was not incorrect— at least, not entirely. Because as far as the Regis's history records were concerned, Ames was the reckless one.
Zane was the only one who would save her time and again if her recklessness backfired on her. Fortunately, all her reckless behavior happened outside the Human plane. If not, how would the Human plane survive the repercussions of her actions?
From this, it is not wrong to say that Kyran inherited his recklessness from Ames herself.
Not wanting to voice their thoughts and incite Ames's ire, Aron and the Regis Elders kept their mouth shut.
Unfortunately, there was one who did not think the same as them.
"I'd say the dragon blood running in his veins is very potent," Nolan remarked with a slight smile.
Aron and the Regis Elders' brow twitched despite themselves.
Fortunately, Ames failed to register Nolan's witty response and only said, "The Emperor might have some bad blood with us, but that is not the reason he is after him."
Aron and the Regis Elders' expressions turned blank once more. As for the others who heard the exchange between them, they were utterly unable to follow the conversation.
To be honest, when Empress Iulia asked them to prepare and meet with Aron and the others, they were clueless about who they were about to meet. They only knew the one who extended the invitation was the Human plane's Sovereign, Nolan.
Not wanting to get on Nolan's wrong side, they went to the Regis Estate, using a transmission array to the town nearby.
Nolan's lips twitched slightly at Ames's response. He heard she could be an airhead at times but did not expect it to be to this extent.
"Let's get down to business. The more we waste with idle chatter, the harder it will be for us to track their whereabouts and save him," Ames told them, gesturing for Aron to lead them to a conference room.
The discussion that followed would have almost gone awry if not for Alastor mediating with the situation. He more or less guessed what Nolan wanted when he invited others to the meeting. He had been a member of The Coven far longer than the combined ages of the people there and, thus, could easily discern the situation in the Human plane.
After asking a few questions, Alastor got the gist of the empire's overall situation and the Regis Clan's role in keeping the problem from worsening. From there, he talked Ames into making a move to ensure the empire would gain a respite from the attempted invasions of the other nations while the Elite members of the Regis Clan left.
At first, the others were unaware of Ames's identity. Although she appeared familiar with the Regis Clan, they barely understood what they talked about because she sometimes used foreign-sounding terms.
As a matter of fact, Ames used the dragon's way of calling one's great-grandson and such. She also refrained from using Kyran's name, and the others seemed to have an internal agreement with her and followed suit. Nôv(el)B\\jnn
However, the longer they listened to the exchanges, with them also voicing their own now and then, the realization of who Ames was sent all of them reeling in fear. They did not show it. But inwardly, all of them had gotten wary of her presence.
The meeting lasted only about an hour, and after the plan to launch a preemptive attack at the western and southern borders, the meeting was dismissed.
What happened next could be considered one of the monumental events in the history of the other nations in the Human plane. It also caused the Regis Clan's fame to shoot up to an even exaggerated level.
With Ames at the helm, the Regis Family's Elite members went out to battle. Using the Sigil, which the Regis members did not fully understand before, Ames awakened and boosted the overall strength of the Regis Family's Elites. Whether these members participated at the western or southern borders did not matter. They equally received her blessing.
Among the Regis Family's Elites were beast tamers who controlled several beasts at once. After understating the extent of the Sigil's Blessing, their bond with the beasts they tamed strengthened, allowing them to enhance their overall capabilities to another level.
Ultimately, the battle in the empire's western and southern borders ended in approximately four to five hours, with the surrender of the opposing side.
Once the situation in the Ylfaen Empire was resolved, Ames took the Regis Clan's Elites and left the Human plane.
