Book 2: Chapter 32: Feng Yizhou
Vol 2 Ch 32: Feng Yizhou
Feng Yizhou was a true monster, a ruthless demon whose victims likely exceeded a thousand.
After reading through the dossier, Zhang Xuan couldn’t help but ask, "Someone with a rap sheet like this, filled with countless heinous crimes… How can the Hanyuan royal family allow him to run rampant?"
"Of course, they wouldn’t," Fu Yingying replied, her hands clasped behind her back as she puffed out her chest with a seductive smile. "But every time he acts, either there’s no scapegoat, or it has nothing to do with him. Without solid evidence, even the Hanyuan royal family can’t do anything. And the most crucial reason is..."
She trailed off, her beautiful eyes resting on him.
"What’s the crucial reason?" Zhang Xuan ignored her theatrics and pressed on.
Fu Yingying smirked. "Are you really clueless, or just playing with me?"
Zhang Xuan shook his head. "What should I know?"
"You’re competing with Elder Feng Zhaoting for the vice principal position. Don’t tell me you haven’t done any background checks. Feng Yizhou is his younger brother!"
"Feng’s brother?" Zhang Xuan was stunned. No wonder.
With someone to take the fall, no direct evidence, and the backing of both power and influence, who would dare touch him? Even the Hanyuan royal family would think twice.
Picking up the second dossier, Zhang Xuan began reading.
Li Yue'an, ranked 41st on the Hunting List. A Ninth-Level Source Pool expert in the Detached Realm and a rogue Destiny Master, he practiced the "Betrayal Heaven’s Fate."
- Hanyuan Year 580: Gravely injured and saved by a noble named Zeng Yousheng, who married him to his daughter. The following year, Li betrayed him, siding with his political rival, leading to Zeng’s family's execution.
- Hanyuan Year 587: During a trial with companions, he leaked their locations to Source Beasts, resulting in seven deaths and one injury.
- Hanyuan Year 588: Betrayed and buried alive the mentor who had taught him his techniques.
Zhang Xuan felt his scalp tingle.
A Betrayal Heaven’s Fate... such a thing existed? It made Zhang Xuan wonder if the famous Lü Bu from his past life would’ve excelled with this, or perhaps an "Adoptive Father Heaven’s Fate," gaining power through sworn fathers.
Fu Yingying explained, "This Heaven’s Fate grows stronger the more people he betrays, and the more pain they endure."
Zhang Xuan nodded grimly. The pattern was clear. No wonder it was forbidden to reveal one’s Heaven’s Fate—knowing this, no one would save such a person, even if they were dying.
"Does this guy have a powerful background too?"
"Not really," Fu Yingying replied, "but he’s incredibly cunning. He’s been missing for seven years. Both the Hanyuan royal family and Destiny Hall have sent people to find him, but it’s as if he vanished from Hanyuan City."
Zhang Xuan nodded thoughtfully, moving on to the third dossier.
The third target was a notorious "flower thief," a cultivator at the Roaming Realm. However, his method was unique—he violated women in their dreams using his soul, leaving no physical evidence. Even if his victims sought justice, it would be dismissed as a vivid dream.
"What a twisted method..." Zhang Xuan muttered.
This technique allowed him to assault any woman without facing consequences, truly an insidious art.
"But why is his bounty so high? Compared to the first two, this guy doesn’t seem as dangerous."
Despite a lower cultivation level than Ling Buyang, the flower thief ranked 14th on the list, with a bounty of 50 million Source Coins—significantly higher than the other two.
Fu Yingying snorted. "His victims remember everything in excruciating detail, down to the most intimate moments. Though their bodies remain untouched, the psychological trauma is immense. Many people want him dead, which naturally raises the bounty. But every time he strikes, he changes his appearance. No one knows his true identity, so he’s evaded capture for years."
Zhang Xuan nodded in understanding.
While his victims’ bodies were unharmed, the mental scars he left were unforgivable.
"Given how upset you are, were you one of his targets?" Zhang Xuan asked teasingly.
"Of course not... He tried, but I chased him off!" Fu Yingying replied, shaking her head.
Zhang Xuan believed her.
Despite being only at the peak of the Divine Soul Realm, Fu Yingying’s status as a black market leader meant she had plenty of treasures. Even a Detached Realm expert wouldn’t easily gain the upper hand.
"Does Elder Ling need anything else? I can prepare it for you," Fu Yingying asked, steering the conversation back.
"No need. I’ve got everything I wanted."
Zhang Xuan had achieved his two main goals—obtaining a cultivation technique and Destiny Disk. The Hunting List and methods to make money were bonuses.
"In that case, I’ll arrange the duel for you. The Hanyuan royal family happens to have a Battle-Mad Prince at your level eager for a match. If you agree, I’ll make the arrangements."
"Let’s do it," Zhang Xuan nodded.
Fu Yingying calculated. "Then, in three days, please return for the duel. I’ll spread the word to ensure everyone can profit."
Zhang Xuan agreed and left, boarding a small boat that carried him away.
Although his black market visit emptied his funds, the gains had been substantial.
As he departed, Fu Yingying’s smile faded, replaced by a pensive look.
"Miss, is something off about this Ling Buyang?" asked a maid who appeared from the shadows.
Fu Yingying frowned. "More than just off—I suspect he isn’t Ling Buyang at all but someone impersonating him!"
"Why do you say that?"
"Every time Ling Buyang saw me, he acted like he’d never seen a woman before, constantly flirting. I even suspected he was that dream-invading flower thief! But this man barely looks at me, and my charm techniques don’t affect him. More importantly, Ling Buyang is notoriously timid and cautious. Yet, he agreed to the duel without hesitation!"
The maid gasped. "Could it really be an imposter?"
"It’s possible. But whether he’s real or not will be clear during the duel. The real Ling Buyang wouldn’t stand a chance against the Battle-Mad Prince. Also, the unique techniques of the Mo Dao Heaven’s Fate can’t be faked. Once he uses them, his identity will be certain."
"Miss, you’re brilliant!"
...
Blinded and guided away from the black market, Zhang Xuan eventually returned to the teahouse.
He mounted Dao Li and began his journey back to the city, mulling over his next steps.
"Xu Xin’s memories of Ling Buyang are sparse, and I need to figure out this Mo Dao Heaven’s Fate. If I can’t perform it, I’ll be exposed."
Though Fu Yingying had her suspicions, Zhang Xuan was confident he could dispel them by mastering the Mo Dao technique before the duel.
"But what exactly is this Mo Dao Heaven’s Fate? I need answers."
With a determined look, Zhang Xuan turned his attention to a towering building in the distance—the Fuyuan Trading House.
"Feng Yizhou’s headquarters... Perfect timing. Let’s see what I can find."
Jumping off his horse, Zhang Xuan strode purposefully toward the building.
