Chapter 67: Chapter 69: Talismans
Chapter Sixty-Nine
The next day, Long Fakui was taken away.
A notice declared he was detained for fifteen days for hooliganism.
The whole village was in an uproar.
Seeing Long Fakui being taken away for detention, the villagers looked at Long Xiaoshan with a hint of awe.
What a capable figure Long Fakui was.
He could be called the village bully, intimidating men and women alike, so much so that no one in the village dared to resist.
But when Long Xiaoshan came back, he not only set up a farm and put on a show against Long Fakui by inviting the town's mayor for inspection but also managed to get Long Fakui locked up.
Countryside folks, their thoughts are rather simple.
They only look at the results; last time Long Xiaoshan was detained, he was released in just two days, and now it was Long Fakui's turn to be detained for fifteen days.
This clearly showed the disparity.
That same night, Long Xiaoshan sat with his parents at home.
Someone knocked on the door, and upon opening it, they found it was Ergouzi, little Tie, and their families.
As soon as the two entered, they knelt on the ground thudding and said to Long Xiaoshan, "Brother Xiaoshan, we were wrong. We will never dare to oppose you again, please forgive us."
Long Xiaoshan said, "What are you doing?"
"Xiaoshan, please let Ergouzi off considering your aunt's feelings."
"Your uncle is kneeling for you, too. Little Tie hasn't been learning well, it's my fault I've let you down."
The few elders that came were also about to kneel.
Long Xiaoshan hurriedly helped them up saying, "Alright already, I haven't said I'd do anything to them, let's just forget the past."
After receiving Long Xiaoshan's assurance, these people finally left.
He Xiangyue snorted, "Just a few days ago they were so defiant, treating me like I was beneath them. Now they're not so tough."
Long Xiaoshan smiled, "Mom, they're from our village after all, we see each other all the time."
He understood in his heart.
Ergouzi and little Tie's families definitely harbored resentment; although they were healed later without any disability, they had been severely beaten and suffered a great deal.
But they did not dare say anything out of fear for his combat skills.
However, with Long Fakui now under arrest, they could no longer sit still.
Even Long Fakui couldn't stand up to Long Xiaoshan, so where would they get the courage to be defiant? Being beaten up was one thing, but if they were also detained, that would be even harder to bear.
After finishing his meal, he returned to the farm.
Long Xiaoshan took out those books to continue reading; he felt they were really good, like opening a new door. He had read about Fengshui Technique in the past few days, and now he started reading about talismans.
That day, Jia Laodao had thrown a talisman at him.
The talisman could conjure a fireball, and its power was considerable; if not for his Peach Wood Sword blocking it, his hand might have been ruined.
Long Xiaoshan read the book on talismans.
It contained records of dozens of talismans.
In addition to the Fireball Talisman that Jia Laodao cast, there were Vajra Talismans, Wind Blade Talismans, Condensing Water Talismans, Purification Talismans, and various others.
The book contained some of Jia Laodao's notes and insights.
He discovered that these talismans were no ordinary matter; there were two methods for drawing them.
One method involved various materials.
For example, to draw a Fireball Talisman, one needed talisman paper, the blood of a rooster born at noon, top-grade white scales, a fluorescent stone, and over a dozen other materials blended into a special ink, then drawn onto the talisman paper with this ink.
This was the most common and also the most complicated method.
The talismans Jia Laodao drew were of this kind, not only laborious but also with a low success rate.
The other method, for those with the cultivation of Qi Induction into the body, was to directly use True Qi and mana to draw the talismans.
This required far fewer items and the resulting talismans were more powerful than the ordinary ones.
However, Jia Laodao had not yet achieved Qi Induction, so he could not draw these spirit talismans.
Qi Induction.
Long Xiaoshan's mind stirred, recalling that the Longevity Art also mentioned this concept, and indeed, he could feel a stream of qi flowing within him, with a qi cyclone in his dantian. If this was Qi Induction, then drawing his talismans wouldn't need to be so complicated.
He took out the materials he had gathered from Jia Laodao.
A talisman brush, a stack of talisman paper, and some bottles and jars labeled with cinnabar and such.
Holding the talisman brush, Long Xiaoshan channeled his True Qi into it, and with a stroke on the talisman paper, a faint white light appeared. Long Xiaoshan was delighted—it was indeed effective.
Following the content of the talisman book, he started to draw.
At first, failure was common.
Long Xiaoshan was not discouraged and kept drawing over and over again.
After wasting more than a dozen sheets of talisman paper,
finally, he successfully drew a Fireball Talisman. After completion, the white light gradually turned into red marks on the talisman paper, resembling a ball of fire.
It looked very much like the ones in the book.
After he finished drawing the talisman, Long Xiaoshan felt a sense of emptiness.
To draw this talisman, he had used up all his True Qi.
He took the Fireball Talisman outside, made sure no one was around, and threw it at a tree as thick as a bowl. He shouted, "Come forth!"
Boom!
A blinding flash of fire burst forth.
A fireball roughly the size of a fist slammed into the tree, exploding on impact, snapping the thick trunk in two. The fire roared; before long, the large tree was reduced to char.
Long Xiaoshan was stunned.
The fireball was extremely fierce.
Its power was tremendous.
Several times stronger than the Spirit Talisman Jia Laodao had thrown at him that day.
He realized with alarm that this thing shouldn't be used carelessly—if it hit an ordinary person, they would certainly die.
He returned to his room and rested for a while.
He prepared to draw a Vajra Talisman.
Unbeknownst to him, a night passed.
Long Xiaoshan did not sleep for the entire night.
At last, he also managed to draw a Vajra Talisman. He didn't test it this time, but with the Fireball Talisman as a precedent, he was confident that the effect of the Vajra Talisman wouldn't be any less effective.
For several days in a row, Long Xiaoshan immersed himself in the study of talismans and continuously drew them.
At first, the success rate was very low, but gradually it increased.
After several days, the success rate rose to over fifty percent.
After a few days, Long Xiaoshan had used up all the talisman paper he obtained from Jia Laodao, and he had several dozen talismans in hand.
With these talismans at his disposal, Long Xiaoshan felt much more secure.
He went home and gave a Vajra Talisman to each member of the Couple Long Dashan, saying, "Dad, Mom, I'm going to Xinyuan County for a few days to take care of some business. These are the talismans I've drawn for your safety. Keep them safe."
"Talismans?" The Couple Long Dashan examined the talismans, turning them over in their hands.
"Xiaoshan, you can draw talismans?"
Long Xiaoshan whispered, "The Celestial taught me as well. Keep them carefully and don't lose them."
Hearing that it was a teaching from a Celestial, the Couple Long Dashan quickly nodded and carefully tucked the talismans close to their bodies.
Long Xiaoshan then found Chun Tao and gave her a Vajra Talisman as well.
After that, he started up the pickup truck and left the village.
Once out of the village, he took out the Soul-Calming Wooden Talisman and connected with it, summoning the ghost of "Wang Feng."
"Wang Feng, I'm now taking you back to Xinyuan County. Where is your home in Xinyuan County?"
Wang Feng hurriedly replied with gratitude, "Thank you, Immortal. My home is at XX Road, XX number, Chengguan Town, Xinyuan County."
"I've got it." Long Xiaoshan noted the address, nodded, and drove the car towards Xinyuan County.
